117 Conversion Rules For Your Ecommerce Store

14 HOMEPAGE RULES
Your homepage serves as an introduction to your brand. The first time for many users, and it should guide them to what they need.

Failing here makes it difficult to persuade users to shop from you.
3 COLOR SCHEME RULES
Branding and credibility largely depend on your color scheme.

If you don't have proper coloring, your site will look unprofessional and users will be afraid to purchase.
14 HEADER RULES
Your header is the primary navigation for your site.

If it has too much or too little information, it will confuse users and make them leave instead of guiding them through your funnel.
7 FOOTER RULES
Your footer is the place to provide users with details about your brand.

A footer should act as a robust extension of your main navigation, helping visitors navigate the site and find what they need to make a buying decision.
38 PRODUCT PAGE RULES
The most crucial page on your store is your product page.

If you properly construct your product page, you will see increased revenue.

If you do the opposite, any marketing efforts will fall short of expectations.
20 CATEGORY PAGE RULES
Your category pages are the main navigational spots across your products.

They help users find what they need, and if it doesn't persuade users to go to the next stage of funnel, it will be tough to grow your business.
21 CART PAGE RULES
At least 5-7 people out of 10 will abandon their cart in your store.

But high cart abandonment rate can kill your profit.

The average cart abandonment rate is about 60-70%.

Why did I create it?
Mantas Karmaza, The creator of Audit Your Store
Hi guys,

I'm already working with e-commerce stores for over 4 years, and within that period, I did around 1000+ A/B tests on 7-8 figure stores, which increased their sales 2-3X times.

After that, I realized that most of the problems that drive down sales and conversions on e-commerce stores are pretty similar. And based on these 1000+ A/B test results, I can create a simple and understandable checklist that any store owner, marketer, or designer can use.

After several months of content writing (250+ pages, around 400 screenshots from stores), I created a 117-rule checklist with actionable guidelines.

I have used these rules for each of my clients and helped grow to 7-8 figure businesses. I think that it's really a must-have for e-commerce owners and marketers.

Of course, these are just the best practices that worked for my clients, and it doesn't necessarily mean that all of them work for absolutely all e-commerce stores. But I am convinced that these guidelines will work great for the vast majority. Anyway, it's a good foundation to start with and avoid critical problems that most e-commerce stores have nowadays.

How to Audit Your Store

Follow these step-by-step guidelines to get the most value from the conversion rules
  • 1
    Install Free Chrome Extension
    Download Chrome Extension

Works on almost any browser: Firefox, Brave, Opera, Chrome, and anything built with Chromium!
  • 2
Go to your store and open a page you want to review
TIP: Starting from the most important pages will show the highest revenue increase (homepage, product, and cart pages).
  • 3
Click on Chrome Extension and choose a category of rules
If you are on a cart page, then select cart page rules. If you are on the homepage, then select homepage rules.
  • 4
Go through the checklist one by one and check if your store meets a rule
If you don't meet a rule, keep it. If it's irrelevant, click the 'X' button to remove it. If your store meets a rule, just click on it, and it'll be crossed out.
  • 5
Export your audit and learn from your mistakes
Click on 'Export Audit' to download a list of what could be improved in your store. When you have this report, you can open the tutorials to read detailed rule explanations and see bad vs. good examples, which will help you understand how to fix your conversion mistakes.

Important: Detailed rule explanations are available only in the Paid version of Audit Your Store
  • 6
    Follow recommendations and implement fixes
The most important part of the process! If you see a problem, you should correct it. Often you can do that yourself. If that's not the case, ask or hire a developer to do that.

  • 7
Scale with increased profit margins and conversions!

Why do you need full access?
Standard Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) audit with a list of actionable recommendations starts from €400. I do such CRO audits of Shopify stores for €1500+ depending on the complexity of a website.

It's too much for many Shopify owners, marketers, designers, and developers to pay for a Basic audit. That's why I created a 117-rule checklist with actionable guidelines.

These rules are a pretty good and very cheap replacement for such an expensive audit.

For example, if I did an audit of your Shopify store, it would include all the recommendations from these guidelines + insights that I would find with deeper research and analysis.

This is why if you buy access to the rules, you can actually solve the main problems on your site.

If you apply all these recommendations, then in 90% of cases (because ~90% of Shopify stores are absolutely not optimized), you will have increased sales and conversions.

That would be a great foundation. And after that, you can invest more in CRO, hire a specialist and do an in-depth analysis to optimize your store even more. Case studies of big branding campaigns (Nike, Amazon, Vanmoof) and the lessons a designer can take away from each with respect to corporate identity projects.
